I love how on the Paul Costello portfolio page, that the nav bar has been made out of a chic book scape. Further, if you explore the portfolio of pictures, they make me very jealous, I just want to step right into the interiors and the the fabulous, carefree locations. Though sadly the site isn’t the fastest site ever.

Moxy Creative does quirky funny posters like the one below. Can you guess which outfits belong to what musicians? Some are easy like which one is Micheal Jackson’s outfit, and some I found a bit more obscure like Chet Baker.

Moxy creative also has similar posters with glasses that were made famous by their owners.

Lora Lamm, born in Switzerland in 1928, was a major contributor to the Milanese design style of Italy during the 1950s and 1960s.I love her lively and colorful advertisements for Pirelli and Rinascente, an Italian department store, that seem timeless.

How to fill the surfaces, like your dresser top or bedside table. It’s always nice to have little colorful trays to keep you earrings in or just to spice up the flat surface and add some color. Here are some dishes / trays I like.

Below is a Kaas Glassworks decoupage dish. I choose this one because I live near Washington Square Park. I like Kaas Glassworks because it hasn’t become as mainstream as John Derian.

If you are looking for a cleaner look, you could get a lacquer tray like the one below which comes in tons of colors. Would also be a cute tray for your bar items.

Or for a more classic look there are the St. Honore Ceramic Trays.

Wall Collages

I adore wall collages and think the Kate Spade and J. Crew stores do an amazing job of creating them with bright colors, all different sizes and mediums.

The below is picture of a wall at the Kate Spade pop up store in London, which funnily enough has framed Penguin Book art.

J.Crew does an amazing job in their stores. I sometimes wonder if I could buy not only the clothes but the art off the wall. The art in the women’s stores is a lot lighter than the wood paneled men’s stores, like the new men’s shop on the Upper East Side, pictured below.

The iconic look of Penguin Book covers have been reinvented by countless artists as well as been made into mugs, pool balls and USB sticks. The original iconic Penguin Classics book covers were designed by Edward Young in the 1930s. Check out a few reinterpretations of the original below:

Harland Miller’s re-interpretation of classic Penguin books where the titles are transformed to demonstrate qualities of the author.

A Brazilian ad agency has designed a simple and clever campaign for Penguin Books, where words easily conjure up pictures and cities iconic images.

Finally, an artist I’ve mentioned before, Alanna Cavanaugh. I love her take on the iconic Penguin Books, they looked great framed. Check out the silk screen process.
